Early Concepts

I've been working on character concepts for my personal project. I have a story created; the entire project will be built around that, starting with concepts and going through each step as if the project were being made into a movie or game. Having said that, it's going to be a long project. I'll be taking my time making sure each part is done as best I can before moving on.

This early in the project, I have lots of quick sketches and messy ideas jotted down. There won't be much to see until I start nailing down some solid designs, but I'll try to have something to post here from time to time so you can see some progress.

First up is an idea for one of the characters. This is more for the feel and build of the character, not to design her wardrobe. You can see things like where her top just kinda...doesn't have sleeves defined yet, they just turn into her arms.

Second is an armor set for a different character. This is something he will only be wearing for a short time, but other background characters might show up wearing the same thing. I've been mulling over the design for a while, and whipped this up quickly this morning after failing to be able to sleep more than 4 hours. Ugh.

Hopefully soon I'll have some more character sketches and environment ideas that are presentable enough to show.

A new place and a new project

So, I'm moving again. Well I'm currently bumming a couch for a few months and I'll be moving into a new place at the end of October. Point is, I don't have a good place to set up my computer and tablet, so I'm forced to try to work on my laptop that hates my Intuos. Digital work is partially on pause until after I get my current portrait commission done and get moved into an apartment.

That being said, I have a very big, very involved, personal project I will be working on with lots of steps and updates and interesting things. I hope to film a lot of mini tutorials and stream a lot with an open format while doing this project, so please get comfy and join!

Already outlined a story and ideas I want to build this project around. Here are a few beginning character sketches, just playing around with shapes to give each character the feel I want

Here's a rough schedule:
October - loose character, environment concepts

November - starting into full character sheets

December - mostly in Alaska on vacation, but I will start storyboarding

January - Storyboards! Thinking about sequentially illustrating in two ways, as a pitch for an action scene to be later animated/acted AND as a rough-draft for a comic layout

February - starting full illustrations, key frame and promotional pieces

Miobi

Last night I spent two hours on a portrait so I could make a face tutorial! The photo referenced used is of Miobi, find her on miobi.deviantart.com . The video is about 15 minutes long...if you don't want to bother with the tutorial part, skip to 11:20 for the timelapse (silent).

Heroes Progress

I've been working on my entry for the Heroes of the Storm art contest. It's been a lot of fiddling with positioning and slowly working on lines, but it's getting there. Here are the lines for the characters (still need to work on Nova's gun) with a very quick lighting test. From here I'll finish up lines and background, then start the process of painting in color and light. From here on out it will look better and better very quickly, so I probably won't post any more until I'm ready to submit the thing.

Just imagine a background and some spikes ;)

Videos and streaming incoming

I have the tech to start recording videos now! I'll be keeping an archive of sorts on a new, separate page on this website, linking to the videos on YouTube. Please feel free to subscribe to that YouTube channel if you'd like an easy way to keep up to date (and keep me in check). I'd love to know what people want to see or learn about.

First video is the start of an exciting project, and I'll be keeping a log of my process for it. Let me know what you think.

Also I have a Twitch channel, which for now I just randomly stream me drawing from time to time with no schedule or format. Feel free to drop by and say hi.

AH Fanart Progress

Just wanted to update for now, hopefully I can knock this out in my spare time by this weekend. Upcoming projects will include some League of Legends and/or Heroes of the Storm fan character splashes, maybe some FunHaus pieces, and a commissioned portrait project.

I got an Elgato game capture card. Of course I'll probably use it to capture games here and there, but I also got it to capture drawing stuff. Plans tentatively include making a semi-regular YouTube channel, and streaming as I draw and just shoot the breeze (a very low-key hang out session while I embarrass myself on the internet).

Well you've gotta start somewhere, and for me that somewhere is testing my set-up with some goofing off.

AH Fanart

I was watching How To: Mortal Kombat X with Joel, Adam, Matt, and Jeremy the other night. There was a great moment where Matt and Jeremy were compared to the character they were playing as, Ferra and Torr. I know Jeremy asked not to see fanart of that, but how could I not? Tonight I started sketching it out.

I take commissions. Pricing is completely dependent on each individual project, so please contact me and we can work out a plan.
